Our Identity

We are a movement of churches across British Columbia, working together in strategic partnership to accomplish more than we ever could alone. As part of the Baptist General Conference of Canada, we exist to strengthen one another and advance the mission of Jesus in our province and beyond.

Our Mission

We equip and support churches to live out the Great Commandment and fulfill the Great Commission—by cultivating healthy disciples, strengthening churches, and advancing a Gospel presence in every community.

Our Vision

A growing movement of healthy, Christ-centered churches bringing the truth and love of Jesus to every community.

Our Focus

In response to Jesus’ call in Matthew 9:35–38, we are committed to seeing a Gospel presence established in every community—raising leaders, strengthening churches, and joining God in His mission across British Columbia.

Our Values

We are shaped and guided by these core convictions:

  • The sovereign leadership of God through Jesus Christ

  • The Bible as the authoritative Word of God

  • Prayer as our essential connection with God

  • Obedience to the Great Commission

  • Openness to Spirit-led innovation

  • The local church as the visible expression of Christ’s body

  • The well-being of pastors and their families

  • Healthy churches through renewal and revitalization

  • Multiplying Gospel presence in every community

  • Leadership development and multiplication at every level

  • A relational, family-like culture

  • Collaboration with other like-minded churches

  • Celebrating the diversity of people and cultures

Our Commitment

We are committed to strengthening churches, developing leaders, and expanding Gospel presence across British Columbia—together.

Our Story

The British Columbia Baptist Conference (BCBC) is a family of Baptist General Conference churches united by a shared commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ. Together, we serve churches, strengthen leaders, and multiply ministry across British Columbia.

Our story began in 1891 with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, the first Conference Baptist congregation in the province. From those early missionary roots, churches were planted and ministries expanded throughout British Columbia, shaped by a strong commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and cooperation.

For much of the twentieth century, BC churches were part of the Columbia Baptist Conference, working in close partnership with churches in the northwestern United States. As the number of churches in British Columbia grew, so did the vision for a distinctly Canadian expression of Baptist General Conference ministry.

In 1985, following years of prayer and discernment, BC churches became the British Columbia Baptist Conference, affiliating with the Baptist General Conference of Canada. On Canada Day, July 1, 1985, BCBC was officially formed at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church—symbolizing both continuity and new beginnings.

Since then, BCBC has focused intentionally on church planting, leadership development, and pastoral support. Through strategic planning, faithful stewardship, and cooperative ministry, churches have been planted, renewed, and resourced in urban, rural, and intercultural contexts across the province.

Today, BCBC continues this legacy as a family of churches on mission together, faithfully adapting to changing times while holding fast to the gospel and our evangelical convictions.
